Soldiers of the 27th Iowa Volunteer Infantry taken as POWs at Waterford, MS
December 20, 1862
Source: Letter written by Col. Jed Lake Dated December 22, 1862
In a letter dated December 14, 1862 written at Waterford Camp, Col. Lake described their location as: "Our present location is on that road, seven miles from Holly Springs, and four from the Tallahatchie" The men were paroled the next day at Tallahatchie. Some records indicate they were captured at Tallahatchie. I believe the actual capture took place at Waterford.
